FAQ

Who are you?

I’m Lindsay. Hello!

Where do you live?

I live in England. Right in the middle.

How old are you?

Well, that’s just nosy! Let’s say I’m twenty-something in case I forget to update this.

What languages do you speak?

My native language is English but I have also studied, in order of how much, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Esperanto, Japanese, Indonesian, Dutch, Mandarin, Korean.

I’ve also studied various languages for travel at certain points in the past.

When did you start learning languages?

I began with French way back in primary school because my mum signed me up. I kept going because they gave you croissants and orange juice at the end of term.

When did you get so interested in languages?

We have Shakira to thank for that. Just before I had to pick my GCSEs Shakira rocked up with Whenever, Wherever. I got the album and then asked for a Spanish dictionary for my birthday to help me translate the Spanish songs on the album. After 3 years of French at school and nothing else, Spanish became a GCSE option just in time for me to take it up. I didn’t care much about French at this point but I had to do it to be able to do Spanish so I did. From there my passion and interest grew and grew. Like a big sunny sunflower.

Why do you learn languages?

Hmm…big question. Watch this.

What’s your favourite language?

Not really a fair question! Each language I learn is special to me for different reasons.

When did you start Lindsay Does Languages?

I started tutoring under the name Lindsay Does Languages in April 2012 but I didn’t begin blogging until January 2014. By the end of 2015, Lindsay Does Languages had moved completely online.

Who is this Gonzo you speak of?

Gonzo is my tortoise! She’s called Gonzo because of Speedy Gonzalez (She’s a tortoise. They’re slow. Get it?). Since discovering she’s a girl I should really start calling her Gonza I suppose…

And who the heck is Ashley?

Ashley is my partner in crime. He’s a bit of a gem.

Do you write about other stuff?

I do indeed. I sometimes write about my travel adventures over on Mundo Trundle with the lovely Ashley. Come and say hey!

What do you use to make your videos?

Lots of fancy equipment I’m lucky enough to have access to. Mainly a Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 60D (a Canon 80D is the modern equivalent of this), a Zoom H4n microphone, Røde NTG-2 microphone, lots of lights, a pop up green screen, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Bamboo pad. Phew.

What do you use to edit your photos?

Photos on my blog are normally edited with Adobe Photoshop. Photos on my Instagram feed are usually edited with a handful of apps including A Beautiful Mess and A Color Story or within Instagram. If I make little GIFs, chances are they’ve been done with Party Party.

Can I learn a language with you?

I’m currently not teaching languages but I do offer language coaching packages and online courses. Find out more here.
