#IGLC December Prompts

I went shopping last week. There was tinsel. That means we’re officially allowed to talk all things Christmas.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to bombard you just yet. But I am going to share the prompts for the Instagram Language Challenge in December with you. There’s a festive background. Forgive me.

#IGLC is your chance to bring your language learning to Instagram each day. Here are the prompts for December. The theme? The alphabet.

So there’s something I’ve wanted to do with the Instagram Language Challenge for a while now. But I figured I’d need to wait for a shorter month, aka February.

Then I figured that December would be perfect as no doubt there’s bound to be busy days when we’re having our 17th Christmas dinner, braving the shops, or wrapping what must surely be the last batch of presents.

Therefore, may I present to you December’s shorter than average Instagram Language Challenge Prompts…

#IGLC is your chance to bring your language learning to Instagram each day. Here are the prompts for December. The theme? The alphabet.

The most open-to-interpretation #IGLC yet.

Here’s a few ways you could use these prompts to inspire some language love in December.

1) Think of new words that begin with that letter each day and share an image or video to remind you
2) Focus on a particular word group, such as verbs or nouns, and think of as many words that begin with that letter as possible
3) Use the dictionary to give you some inspiration for new words to put into sentences
4) Learn a little about new languages that begin with the daily letter!

I’m still undecided on how I’m going to use this prompt list. Follow me on Instagram to see what I decide.

In the meantime, if you’re new to the Instagram Language Challenge, or it’s been a while, here’s a little reminder of the basics.

What is the Instagram Language Challenge or #IGLC?

1. You pick your language.

You will probably notice that the prompts are in English. This is because the majority of readers of this blog speak English as a native language and are learning other languages.

So the idea is that you can use these English prompts to inspire some new vocabulary in the language (or languages) you’re learning.

However, if you’re learning English, feel free to use the English prompts to learn English vocabulary!

2. The words on the list are just prompts.

This means that you don’t have to look up that exact word in the language you’re learning. You can take this prompt and interpret it as closely or as loosely as you like.

But you may also notice there’s only 26 prompts! Whaaa?! This is to allow for the inevitable super busy days, and to give you a chance to catch up and review at the end of the month.

3. Post a photo or video on Instagram.

Once you’ve decided on the new word you want to learn, you take a photo or make a video (Instagram videos are 15 seconds long – perfect for a little language practise) and post it to Instagram.

There’s no right or wrong way to do this. You won’t be banished to the Kingdom of Doom if you “do it wrong”. You know why? Because you can’t do it wrong!

It’s all about learning. And if you make a mistake, the community are really friendly and if the right people find your photo, you’ll get some help to correct it. Yay!

As long as you use the hashtag #IGLC in the description so I can find it and join in with what you’re learning, then that’s it! It’s that simple.

4. Rather useful apps.

Here are a few useful apps for editing your photos and adding text – perhaps adding your new vocab to the images to make your feed even more useful!

A Beautiful Mess (Android)

Phonto (Android)
Bamboo Loop (Android)
