After 6 weeks, 20 lessons and 3 different tutors, my italki Language Challenge is complete! Hooray! But what did I think? Was it fun? And possibly most importantly, has my German improved?

Was it fun?

Definitely! Finding a good tutor (or in my case, good tutors) was key to my success. Having a variety of lessons motivated me to keep going and even on the days when I didn’t feel up to it, or didn’t feel that I had the time, knowing that the lesson was booked and I was going to be paying if I liked it or not meant I couldn’t slack off! No procrastination on Facebook, no 5 more minutes YouTube and no excuses. And every time I felt a sense of achievement. Something to be proud of. I’d just spent another hour of my life speaking German, and therefore another hour of my life getting better at German, which leads nicely onto my next point…

Has my German improved?

I definitely feel more confident speaking German and other than the odd case issue or separable verb stumbling me, I think I’m alright. Well, you can be the judge of this one. Here’s the video wit me speaking German script-free before the Language Challenge…

…and here’s the video of me doing the same 6 weeks later…

Although I still make mistakes (most of which I noticed post-production and kicked myself for!) it’s still a level I’m proud of and a nice solid base to begin to move on to my next personal language challenge…a little bit of Dutch!
