Language Learning Review for july
Korean
I kept learning Korean as planned, I met Shannon as planned (but not as often as usual because we’ve both been busy!), buuuut…I didn’t have my 2 italki lessons as planned.
Like I said, busy busy. I was working closely with my students on The Online Teaching Starter Kit as well as saying hello to new students with the Online Teaching Marketing Masterclass. (SO much fun!)
As well as this, two of my weekends were busy with local language festivals (and dominoes. If you follow me on Snapchat you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about!)
So yeah, I didn’t get the time for my 2 lessons I wanted.
Japanese
Yay! This happened!
I haven’t been very thorough with my Japanese in terms of practise, but I’ve been reading and working through the chapters of Teach Yourself Japanese as I wanted to do.
In fact, with all that time sat down on a plane back and forth from Montreal, I finished my read-through of Teach Yourself Japanese. Yay!
This means I’m going to take a little break from Japanese over the next month or so.
Icelandic
This happened…ish! There were a couple of days (busy, busy) that I missed, but it was quite easy to catch up.
However, I lost my streak in Montreal. To be honest, I kind of expected this so I wasn’t too worried.
Esperanto
Similar to Icelandic, I lost my streak a couple of days, but I’m not too worried as this wasn’t really my focus for last month.
Language Learning Goals for august
Quite a simple month of language learning planned for summer as I have plans for the autumn!
Icelandic
There’s still a couple of weeks or so until we head to Iceland, so that’s still a couple of weeks to finish my Memrise course and Icelandic Online Basics.
I also set out on the hunt this week for a good but small Icelandic phrasebook. Turns out, they’re hard to come by! What I did find however was an out of print Lonely Planet Scandinavian phrasebook.
Now, I LOVE me a phrasebook…but a regional phrasebook?! Even more so. I ordered it. I’m excited for its arrival.
Korean
Although I won’t be chatting with Shannon much in August, I want to solidify what I’ve been learning from the Coursera course and other resources I’ve finished recently.
As I mentioned above, I didn’t get the chance to have any italki sessions in July, but I’m planning to book those 2 sessions in August. In fact, one is booked ready and happening the day this post is published!
If I like that tutor, I’m going to book a second one straight away to take the friction out of the process so that it’s all booked and ready for the second lesson I promised myself.
