#WeDoLanguages Twitter Chat Round-Up: Self-Study vs Classes
Did you join us for yesterday’s #WeDoLanguages Twitter Chat? If you missed it, here’s the round-up. If you were there, look out for your tweet!
#WeDoLanguages Topic This Week:
You ready? Let’s see what we had to say…
#WeDoLanguages A1: A mix. It depends on the language, motivation, material available and goals. For Polish, I knew I needed lessons.
— Cristóbal (@krzysiekcl) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages combination: classes keep me motivated but self study keeps me interested #WeDoLanguages
— Charlotte ❄️ (@luna_moonsilver) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages or both. Self-study keeps me focused on what I've learned in language classes. And it's more fun in lang classes #WeDoLanguages
— euna marie tm bernal (@eunamariebernal) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages a2: I remembered English class at school. It was boring. I don't get why I learn English . I didn't have clear goal
— Eugene Gorlo (@eugene_gorlo) January 12, 2016
#WeDoLanguages A2 it depends a lot in the environment. My classmates in ENG class didn’t care. The ones from other langs were motivated
— Cristóbal (@krzysiekcl) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages but uni was better – more focus on practicalities I think. Still v. different to way langs are taught in Europe #WeDoLanguages
— Charlotte ❄️ (@luna_moonsilver) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages to get to talk with my European friends in their own language 🙂 Their happiness would be worth the effort ^^ #wedolanguages!

#WeDoLanguages A3 Meeting new and similar-minded people, stepping out of your comfort zone, study discipline, feedback.
— Cristóbal (@krzysiekcl) January 12, 2016
@luna_moonsilver the accountability is huge from a class! agreed! #WeDoLanguages
— Lindsay Dow (@LDLanguages) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages self study: being able to study at a time that suits you, and flexibility #wedolanguages
— Tita Beaven (@TitaBeaven) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages personalised study: I can learn what I want/need, when I want to. Can be overwhelming as a beginner tho #WeDoLanguages
— Charlotte ❄️ (@luna_moonsilver) January 12, 2016
#wedolanguages A4: You can look for your true motivations and material suited for you. Move at "your own terms". Set your own goals.
— Cristóbal (@krzysiekcl) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages structure has to be general; plus if you get a teacher that's not enthusiastic, you get a class who don't care #WeDoLanguages
— Charlotte ❄️ (@luna_moonsilver) January 12, 2016
@LDLanguages we can't choose the subject of learning
— Eugene Gorlo (@eugene_gorlo) January 12, 2016
#WeDoLanguages A5 Probably you won't always have a positive environment (teachers, classmates, et al), some of them "level-down".
— Cristóbal (@krzysiekcl) January 12, 2016
@FRosellAguilar true – again, online exchanges can be a great way to solve that problem! 🙂 #WeDoLanguages
— Lindsay Dow (@LDLanguages) January 12, 2016
@MamaBabyDeutsch so true! You have to decide that order from the start – and be prepared to adapt 🙂 #WeDoLanguages
— Lindsay Dow (@LDLanguages) January 12, 2016
@TitaBeaven haha! But not if you've set yourself goals from last Saturday's webinar! 😉 #WeDoLanguages
— Lindsay Dow (@LDLanguages) January 12, 2016
Thank you for joining us!
