My Story

Korean is one of those “cool” languages, isn’t it? (Although, I talked about perceptions of languages recently with Kerstin on The Fluent Show. You should totally take a listen here.)

That made it all the more difficult when back in 2016, my study buddy Shannon and I decided to learn Korean and we both really struggled to get beyond the basics. It’s a doozy of a language!

We stopped studying around the same time to make way for other language projects, but she’s gone back to it recently and I will be very soon too as we’re planning to visit the country together soon.

So, my story with Korean so far involves trying to get on board, learning Hangul in a couple of hours, watching a lot of Boys Over Flowers, and trying and trying but never really succeeding…so far.

We’ll see what the future has to bring with Korean!

Resources

How to Study Korean – This website is great to follow through for the grammar side of things. It’s well-structured and takes things to a high level if you get that far.

Dom + Hyo – Adorable graphics never hurt anyone, right? Right. Bring that into your Korean with Dom + Hyo’s awesome website.

Duolingo – Korean is on Duolingo, which is super handy to make it accessible from the get go.

Lingodeer – If Duolingo isn’t your thing, check out Lingodeer for an alternative. Yes, there’s actually a cute deer to keep you company.

Eggbun – Equally adorable, Eggbun is an app that teaches Korean through text chat. Very cool.
