Podcasts are an essential resource for language learners. If you’re looking for podcasts to learn French, you’re lucky because there’s lots of choice. You’ve got an abundance of podcasts for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Here’s my favourites.

I’ve ordered the French podcasts below by level to help you decide which podcasts are worth trying for you.

Do scan over them all though as I’ve listed them for the level they ‘start’ being good for. Some go beyond that too. For example, some that I’ve listed as beginner are also great for intermediate and advanced learners.

Best Podcasts to Learn French for Beginners

Louis French Lessons

Average length: 5 minutes

Level: Beginner

Regular short episodes for beginners with short dialogues and explanations. Short episodes also help so as not to overwhelm you when you’re in the early stages of learning a language.

French Made Easy

Average length: 5-10 minutes

Level: Beginner

A great, digestible podcast for French beginners! A must if you’re using other resources like a book or course, and want to refresh things like verb conjugations.

Radio Lingua – Coffee Break

Average length: 15 minutes

Level: Beginner

Probably one of the longest running language learning podcasts. The Coffee Break series is always very popular and recommended.

Innovative Languages – Survival Phrases

Average length: 1-5 minutes

Level: Beginner

The Survival Phrase series is no longer updated. However, it’s still very useful for getting to grips with a new language.

Language Transfer

Average length: 10 minutes

Level: Beginner

Brilliant project that reminds me of Michel Thomas style audio courses. A great collection of complete language courses, including French.

Français Authentique

Average length: 5-20 minutes

Level: Beginner to intermediate

Super regular episodes with natural spoken French focusing on topics from grammar through to culture.

Transcripts available on the website too.

French Voices & French Your Way

Average length: 10-60 minutes

Level: Beginner to intermediate


A little different to most podcasts out there for French learners. French Your Way is more for beginners and intermediate learners. Think vocab and grammar improvements.

In French Voices, Jessica interviews French speakers. Ideal if you want to become more familiar with spoken French. There’s transcripts and more on the website too.

French Blabla

Average length: 5-10 minutes

Level: Beginner to intermediate

Good range of topics covered on these short episodes. Be sure to read the descriptions too! This gives more on what to expect in terms of grammar, vocab and levels per episode.

Le Vignoble

Short podcasts sharing an original story in French from the lovely Léa. Not updated since 2021. A10 episode/chapter story-based show.

News in Slow French

One of the first podcasts for language learning that I discovered. This is a great beginner podcast if you’d like to use news to learn languages.

You’ll need a subscription if you want the transcripts and full episodes. However the podcast feeds have a shorter version of each episode, which is useful too.

Duolingo French Podcast

Average length: 20 minutes

Level: Upper beginner to intermediate

If you love Duolingo for learning French, their podcast is a great addition to your resources. Easy-to-follow French with English as needed to help you get context.

Easy French

Average length: 25 minutes

Level: Upper beginner to intermediate

There’s a wonderful back catalogue of videos from Easy French on YouTube. Now there’s some podcasts too!

Typically conversation-based. Great if you want to become more familiar with different spoken French styles.

Français avec Pierre

Average length: 10 minutes

Level: Beginner to advanced

A mixture of discussions on interesting topics and French lessons. This is a great podcast to subscribe to for French learners of all levels.

Le français avec Fluidité

Average length: 10-30 minutes

Level: Beginner to advanced

This podcast has so much going for it! There’s episodes for all levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.

There’s free French transcriptions provided. And there’s French, English, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles on the YouTube versions of the episodes.

Fluent Fiction – French

Average length: 15 minutes

Level: Beginner to advanced

Bilingual French and English stories ideal across levels.

Transcript and vocab available in the episode descriptions.

French LingQ Podcast

Average length: 30 minutes

Level: Beginner to advanced

LingQ* is a super useful resource for learning lots of languages (I’m an affiliate for them because I really like it!).

Their podcast series features interviews in French. Not updated since 2022.

One Thing A Day in French

Average length: 5-10 minutes

Level: Upper beginner to intermediate

Literally, one thing a day in French…ish! Typically updated 3 times a week in 2023. Which is still a huge commitment! There’s well over 2000 episodes in the archives of this one so…wow!

Little Talk in Slow French

Average length: 20 minutes

Level: Upper beginner to advanced

The title kinda says it all. Conversations about a range of interesting topics, all spoken in slow French. Ideal for upper beginners and beyond.

Another of my favourites and normally the first place I look when I’m starting a new language. You might think that because of the range of languages on offer, that dilutes the quality, but not so.

You’ll notice I’m listing all here as intermediate to advanced. This is because I believe there’s value in listening and getting comfortable with French you don’t understand before you’re ready.

However, generally, the themes and conversations include more advanced vocab than the previous podcasts listed.

So these are great for advanced learners who want to enjoy content mostly made for native speakers.

SBS

I couldn’t quite believe the range of languages when I found this for Indonesian and searched back to where it came from. And of course, there’s a French feed!

NHK

Lots of well organised shows available in different languages from KBS, the Korean broadcaster. There’s currently 3 available in French.

A Spotify Original podcast in French, this show focuses on feminist topics and conversations. The best thing? Many episodes have been recorded or dubbed in English too. That’s a great help for confirming what you think you heard!

Les Baladeurs

A must-listen if you love travel and adventures! This French podcast features conversations about adventures and misadventures outdoors.

My Polyglot Life by Cathy Intro
