Apply to Work With Me in 2021!

This week, I’ve opened up applications to work with me in 2021. I’m starting a brand new program called Language Life and am beyond excited to finally share this with you after having it brewing in secret for the past couple of months!

Language Life is like nothing I’ve seen out there for language learners. It’s not just another course of “Essential French” or an ebook of “Korean 101”, this is something brand new, interactive, and evolving to give ALL learners of ANY language what you need most.

Give me a year, I’ll give you language skills for life. Curious? Learn more and apply now here. I’m hosting a private live training on Monday 30th November exclusively for people who apply, where I’ll be sharing the full details of the program.

Can’t wait to read your application!

Language Learning Review for November

Indonesian

My goal was to finish my italki* lesson package, and keep going with my Memrise courses after lessons were over.

Done!

I’ve added my final lesson words to my personal Memrise course and am almost done with that so nearly ready to move on to the 2000 words one.

A little bonus – hunting around on Spotify for Indonesian podcasts, I’ve discovered a great one that’s actually about languages!! It’s called Kita Bahas Bahasa Ini, or KBBI, which means ‘We Talk About Language Here’. Couldn’t be clearer!

I’m only one episode in so far, but enjoying picking up bits and there, especially as it’s something I’m interested in.

Mandarin

My goal was to transfer my lesson learnings to Memrise. Done!

In addition, I’ve also found some new podcasts on Spotify I’m currently exploring to see what’s right for me at my level. I’m after something all or mostly in Mandarin, not aimed at complete beginners but also not quite in the comfort zone for stuff aimed at natives just yet. Any suggestions?!

Guarani

My goal was to sit and read at least 2 pages from my bilingual reader at least once a week. I think this happened twice. I’ve not been to firm with tracking as I’m not really after speedy gains right now, but I think it was twice!

That said, I have been able to easily maintain a daily lesson on Duolingo in Guarani too.

Everything Else

My goal was to keep Memrise up daily with at least one check in to one course/language each day for Portuguese, Italian, Bulgarian, German, Korean and then reviewing and completing for Yoruba, Kristang and Manx.

I wasn’t expecting to complete the Yoruba, Kristang and Manx ones as they’re a little bigger but the habit of one a day is going well. Done!

Language Learning Goals for December

Indonesian

It would be great to do some catch up on the KBBI language podcast I found. I’ll set a goal of listening to at least one episode per week in December and see how that goes.

The podcast feels like a resource I can (and most likely will!) return to again to dissect a little more, but that’s not my focus this month.

Mandarin

If I can find a podcast in Mandarin that gets me as excited as KBBI, I’ll be very happy!

My goal here then is to listen to an episode from at least 3 new podcasts in Mandarin a week and see what fits. Again, open to suggestions here!

Guarani

When I did get to sit and read in Guarani, I enjoyed it. The book is like folklore tales so it’s good for teaching me a bit more about the culture too.

With that in mind, my goal is to read at least 2 new stories from the book. I’m not too worried about whether it’s 2 pages weekly or anything like that right now. If I can do stories at some point this month, I’ll be happy with that.

Everything Else

Memrise wise, keeping up with the goal of at least one check in to one course/language each day for Portuguese, Italian, Bulgarian, German, Korean and then reviewing and completing for Yoruba, Kristang and Manx.

Listening wise, as well as the SBS news feed podcasts, I’ve got a mix of Japanese, Portuguese, Bulgarian and French and am always looking out for new ones to add to the mix. My goal is to keep listening to these (after Indonesian and Mandarin) on my walks each day.
