What happened in July?

A few exciting things to share for you about July’s happenings before we dive into the language review and goals for next month!

No. 1 – Polyglot Cruise is coming!

In Spring 2020, Kris Broholm is hosting the first ever Polyglot Cruise. It’s happening in the Mediterranean and it’s going to be awesome. For more details, the best thing to do is check this post and watch the video interview I did with Kris to find out more.

No. 2 – FluentU Review

I first reviewed FluentU back in 2015 so it was time for a well-overdue review of this language learning app. Take a look and catch up here.

No. 3 – The Ultimate List of Language Learning Resources

I’ve been working on this for ages. Adding links, then leaving it for months then going back in to add more…it’s still not *finished* but my plan is to add new links and updates to The Ultimate List of Language Learning Resources monthly. Click the image below to get access now.

Language Learning Review for July

italki lessons weekly – My italki plan was to have weekly lessons. Actually, I exceeded this and found a second tutor to have additional lessons with as well!

I did this in part because I won’t be as available for lessons in August. This means most of my study time for July was spent with tutors on Skype so the other goals didn’t happen as much.

Drops – I’ve been using Drops to increase my Korean vocabulary for 5 minutes each day, typically in the morning when I’m having my tea at the end of breakfast. This is the one other habit that’s mostly stuck as it’s unaffected my my normal study time being used for lessons.

KoreanClass101 – I haven’t been using KoreanClass101 as much in July because of the italki lessons.

LingQ – Again, haven’t used LingQ at all due to the lessons I’ve been having.

Eggbun – Same story with Eggbun!

DuolingoDuolingo is the only other thing I have been able to use a little still despite the lessons!

Expanding on Notes – I planned to expand my notes but it makes the most sense to me to do this when I’ve finished my current notebook. I’m just a couple of pages off so might make it before we leave for our summer holiday…!

Language Learning Goals for August

Korean

I’m not setting myself any actual language learning goals for August because there’s just a week or so until we leave for two weeks in Spain, and then I fly directly to South Korea. Looking forward to actually being able to use Korean IRL for the first time!

But Korean will be my focus for what little time we have. I’ve got 2 lessons scheduled this week, and will try and do Drops to at least finish the Travel Talk section.
